Flying reconsidered... perhaps a flying van is too large?

Flying beds

For a long time, I have had this reoccurring fantasy as I drift off to sleep; that my bed can fly. Usually there is a control device that can control the thrusters that lift each corner respectively, and program it to fly anywhere. Of course screaming above the city at Mach 1 would be a bit windy, so there needs to be some kind of force-field to keep the wind-chill to something comfortable... and also, make it invisible so that I wouldn't get a set of F-14 escorts.

Then I always think that this whole business of unlicensed flying IS somewhat risky even with the *smartest* control device; so perhaps it's just as well that the bed would never fit through the window and could never get out of the house?

Well this problem has been *solved*... the hotel I stayed at when I took this video has rooms with huge windows which open to leave a two-meter space large enough to fly any bed through. A Grand Central Station of bed flying!

So I moved the bed near the window, steadied the camera in my arms and let it roll, to which I've put Raccoon's song "Sparks":

<lj-embed id="10" />

Its penalties and additional taxes on business would discourage companies from hiring or continuing to employ low-income and moderate-income workers. The plan would substantially raise health insurance premiums. Yet the plan would still leave millions of Americans without access to affordable health insurance. Adding to their misfortune, it would then punish them with a tax penalty precisely because they are uninsured.

So we have perfected the art of Gouging to allow the Practice of Bad Medicine. This is what government does best, is it not?

Not.

What if we instead asked the question:

"Why are people sick?"

and empowered existing government agencies, perhaps under the direction of a new "Health Czar" to assist in researching the answer to this question, as well as litigate against businesses and individuals suspected of being harmful to public health?

In need of transport, you find a taxi driver who will ferry you about for the sum of $1 per mile.

Through freak circumstances, you find you have the entire budget of the U.S. government with which to pay that taxi driver.

The speed of light = 186,000, * 3600 * 24 * 365.... A light year is approx 5.865 trillion miles.

The distance to Alpha C. is about 4 light years.

In eight years, after paying the U.S. budget (3.2 trillion/year) to the taxi driver, you would reach a point slightly beyond Alpha C.

Makes this whole budget thing seem quite reasonable... Just requires a bit of Science Fiction.

STINKS!!!)

What a mess. The flooring isn't on flat (has "waves" in it), tacks refused to go down cleanly which made some small rips. At least it's in, and protects the floor from spills and such.

May be able to go back in later and "fix" it... pull it tighter, use screws with large washers (which will cover the rips, $10.50 Home depot), use aluminum door and edge guards ($12.50 Home depot). Possibly use glue also.

All the little bits and pieces...
...costs add up, even for a space that's only about 12x6' all told.

Something to keep in mind.

Saw it driving south on '77 after dusk, like the moon was being pulled by two magic objects. I couldn't tell what they were at the time, I thought perhaps satellites they were so bright, but they remained in formation behind the moon for a long time. SO I whipped out the "Game Boy" (a Palm "Lifedrive" I found in a bargain bin last year), and thus learned the true nature of the spectacle. I was sure I would see that exact picture all over the web, so I didn't bother taking a pic...

In Asia they were all aglow because they thought it looked like a smiley face, whereas here it was a frown; according to the media, anyways.
